The Land That Shaped a Family

From the coastal plains of Canaan to the hills of Jerusalem, from the trade routes of the Levant to the olive groves of Galilee — the Origins saga is rooted in a real place with a deep, layered history.

Each volume is set against the historical geography of Palestine as it was known in its era — the shifting borders, the rising and falling empires, and the enduring land that connects every generation of the Haddad family.

A Journey Through Time

1800 BCE

Bronze Age Canaan

The Haddad story begins. Canaanite city-states flourish along trade routes. The Hyksos rule Egypt from the Levant. Megiddo, Jericho, and Hazor thrive as centres of commerce and culture.

1200 BCE

The Great Collapse

Sea Peoples ravage the coast. The Bronze Age civilisations crumble. Egypt retreats. Iron replaces bronze. Philistines settle the coast. New kingdoms — Israel, Judah, Ammon, Moab — emerge from the chaos.

722 BCE

Assyrian Conquest

Assyria destroys the northern Kingdom of Israel. Mass deportations scatter the population. The southern Kingdom of Judah survives as a vassal state. The Haddad family endures.

586 BCE

Babylonian Exile

Nebuchadnezzar sacks Jerusalem and destroys Solomon's Temple. The Babylonian Exile begins. Persian liberation under Cyrus follows in 539 BCE — the Second Temple is built.

332 BCE

Hellenistic Era

Alexander the Great sweeps through Palestine. Greek language, culture, and philosophy reshape the Levant. The Maccabean revolt erupts against forced Hellenisation.

63 BCE

Roman Palestine

Pompey conquers Jerusalem. Rome rules through client kings — Herod rebuilds the Temple on a monumental scale. Jesus of Nazareth is born, teaches, and is crucified under Roman authority.

70 CE

Destruction & Diaspora

Rome destroys the Second Temple. The Bar Kokhba revolt (132 CE) leads to mass expulsion. Jerusalem is rebuilt as the Roman city Aelia Capitolina. Christianity begins its rise.

324 CE

Byzantine Rule

Constantine embraces Christianity. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is built. Palestine becomes a Christian holy land — monasteries, churches, and pilgrim routes change the land.

636 CE

The Islamic Conquest

Caliph Umar enters Jerusalem peacefully. Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock are built on the Haram al-Sharif. Arabic becomes the language of governance. A golden age of coexistence begins.

1099 CE

The Crusades

European Crusaders capture Jerusalem in a bloody siege. The Kingdom of Jerusalem is established. Nearly two centuries of war between Crusader states and Muslim powers reshape the region.

1187 CE

Saladin's Liberation

Saladin defeats the Crusaders at Hattin and retakes Jerusalem. Unlike the Crusader conquest, he spares the population. Ayyubid rule restores Muslim governance to Palestine.

1260 CE

Mamluk Era

The Mamluks halt the Mongol advance at Ain Jalut and rule Palestine for 250 years. They expel the last Crusaders, rebuild mosques and madrasas, and fortify the land.

1517 CE

Ottoman Palestine

Sultan Selim I conquers Palestine. Four centuries of Ottoman rule bring relative stability. Suleiman the Magnificent rebuilds Jerusalem's walls — the walls that still stand today.

1880 CE

Ottoman Twilight

Where the Origins saga ends. European interest in the Holy Land intensifies. The first Zionist colonies are established. The Ottoman Empire weakens. The stage is set for upheaval.

1917 CE

British Mandate

Britain captures Palestine from the Ottomans. The Balfour Declaration promises a Jewish homeland. Conflicting promises to Arabs and Zionists sow the seeds of future conflict. Palestinian resistance grows.

1948 CE

The Nakba (Catastrophe)

The British withdraw. Israel declares independence. Over 700,000 Palestinians are expelled or flee their homes. Hundreds of villages are destroyed. The Palestinian refugee crisis begins — and never ends.

1967 CE

Occupation

Israel captures the West Bank, Gaza, East Jerusalem, Sinai, and the Golan Heights in the Six-Day War. Military occupation of Palestinian territories begins. Settlement construction starts.

1987 CE

The First Intifada

Palestinians rise up against occupation. Stones against tanks. The images shock the world. The Oslo Accords follow in 1993 — promising peace, delivering little.

2000s

Walls & Siege

The Second Intifada. The separation wall carves through the West Bank. Gaza is placed under blockade in 2007. Settlement expansion accelerates. Peace talks stall and collapse.

2023–2025

The Present

The cycle continues. Gaza under bombardment. The West Bank under siege. Palestinians endure. The world watches. The Haddad bloodline — and millions like them — carry the weight of 3,700 years of history.
